DID YOU KNOW THAT ART THERAPY CAN TREAT DEPRESSION?
Usually people are skeptic of art therapy and it is not understood why psychiatric units include occupational therapy. I had recently joined a group of women to paint free style and realized this creative form of expression can set up emotions at deeper level and heal the wound.
It has been found that many cancer patients do participate once in a week getting them involved in painting resulting to reduce depression, anxiety and fatigue taking up these art therapy sessions. Art Therapy is a huge success with adolescents engaging teenagers with emotions coming up in a non threatening way guiding a way of communication with the therapist.
LEARN THE WORTH OF ART
It is quite easy for us to express ourselves more easily with pictures and images rather than words. This is because image takes an easier route to any persons’ mind enabling him a better way to react to this world. A blend of verbal dialogue with a different language is what an Art Therapy is and this is incredibly effective in finding a more successful solution to our difficulties.
Whether it is a shape of clay, collage or any picture type – it is a great expression to the inner world which is not that effective to be articulated in words. Patient is diverged to a little distance with the symbols and graphics allowing the therapist a way to understand their emotions. This process allows the therapist and the patient a better understanding of problems in a different way that works towards finding a solution.
People with personality disorders were treated with art therapies, improving five areas- personal integration, behaviour change, comprehension, emotional repulse. There was an effective pathway created to spread more emotional awareness and constructive regulation with diagnosis.
The sensory inputs are manipulated in support of interpersonal context targeting the cognitive processing areas that require psychological transformation. An ideal condition and a combination of creativity critical for neurons is what is provide by Art Therapy. The top down effects attention, stress reduction is also a part of Art Therapy.
I’m still in the process of translating emotions into effective image therapy and move towards healing.
